HUC School of Foreign Studies (SFS) is an executive member of Foreign Language Teaching & Research Association of Chinese Economics and Finance Universities and an executive director of English Major Teaching Association of Higher Education Institution in Midwest China. SFS is also a director of International Business English Seminar of Chinese International Trade Association, a director of Hunan Translation Association, Hunan Technological Translation Association and Hunan College Foreign Language Committee. The school has five sections, namely, English Language and Literature Department, College English Teaching and Research Section, language Laboratory, HUC Test Center for Spoken English Certificate, and Social Practice Center. The school now has a staff of 75, among which 62 are full-time teachers, including 26 professors and associate professors, three doctors and one doctor candicate.

          Guided by the national education policies and the University’s schooling philosophy, SFS has identified teaching quality, talents as its strategic focuses and insists on establishing its original features to teaching and research. SFS is renowned for its “language + professional emphasis (language & literature, international business, tourism, translation, etc.)” teaching concept, and aims to equip its graduates with solid fundamental knowledge, high comprehensive quality, good practical skills, incisive market vision and incentive thinking. Since 2008, English Language and Literature has become one of the key branches of learning in HUC. It has three major areas as its research focuses: English literature, English linguistics and translation theories & practice.

          SFS attaches great importance to the teaching of fundamental theories and skills. Meanwhile, students are inspired here in SFS to develop creative thoughts as well as practical skills. SFS has created great academic environment where students are expected to have high overall quality and outstanding practical abilities. SFS has strong collaborative links with enterprises in and out Hunan Province and has established a number of practical training centers. The school has also been collaborating closely with the enterprises in aspects of providing teachers, student’s internship and employment, etc. At SFS, we take pride in the high employment rate and good reputation of our graduates.
